Unpack!
I can’t seem to get below 10 boxes to unpack.  Right now here in the little room I have 6 big moving boxes to do; there are 2 boxes on the dining room table and 1 in the bedroom.  Wait - that’s 9 not 10!  Woo hoo!  (Anyone want to do this with me?)

Stuff that's pissing me off right about now
1.  The seller still hasn’t signed and returned the contract.  What the fuck is he waiting for?  This bastard had the balls to write “time is of the essence” on the initial agreement and he’s done nothing but drag his fucking feet ever since.  Fucker. 2.  The guy who lives upstairs is constitutionally incapable of closing the front door.  At least twice a week I come home...

Olivier Awards
Instead of airing the awards uninterrupted as if the radio listening audience is in the Drury Lane, BBC Radio 2 has Matt Wolff and someone else talking to the winners.  Nice, but I want to hear the AWARDS, not the winners’ interviews.  Air that stuff AFTER the awards. Grrr

Do I hear two hundred?
I haven’t heard anything yet.  Yesterday I submitted my bid for the apartment.  The owner’s asking $228,500 and I bid $188,500.  Let’s see what he counters with.  Whatever it is, I’m sticking at my price - unless he asks for $190,00.  That’s it.  I know what I can afford.  If he doesn’t take my bid, I’ll wait.  The market’s going to drop again and...

More Snow!
Looks like this winter is going to be one storm a week.  But actually, if it’s only 2 or 3 inches at a time, I can deal with it.  It’s the huge dumps of snow - 20 inches at a time - that are the killers! This morning I walked to the bus stop rather than take the train, ferry, and subway to work.  It was gorgeous.  I left about 10 to 7 and the sun wasn’t yet up so the sky was...

Really, really stupid
I just read this.  Is this guy for real?  Sounds to me like Alabama just took a giant step backwards.  I think it’s time to give up religion and church.  New Ala. gov: Just Christians are his family By JAY REEVES, Associated Press Jay Reeves, Associated Press Tue Jan 18, 11:39 pm ET BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama Gov. What the hell is wrong with people?
I bet the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords and Judge Roll is going to turn out to be the work of some Family Values, God Fearing Christian who thinks that killing is a legitimate answer. Excuse me but the commandment is Thou shalt NOT kill. Not Kill. Got that? NOT KILL. I’m so angry and upset.  I feel as if my country has been captured and is held hostage by people who think I...

2010/2011
Just a recap of the last several weeks.  My sister and BIL came up from VA for Christmas—spent the Eve with Mom and Dad and the Day with Vic and his family.  Met Erica’s boyfriend’s parents who came for cocktails.  We like Bryan very much.  He’s a nice man. Gerry and Steve drove back to VA on the 26th—took 10 hours instead of 7 but they got there safe and sound. ...

I work for a really stupid company
Really.  What a bunch of fucking amateurs.  We increase our rates on January 1.  Since October my colleagues and I have been after Finance to let us know what the increases are going to be.  We got some.  Approximately 60% of our clients have either been notified or their rates go up at a different time.  What about the other 40%?  Rumor has it the increase is going to be 4% but nothing firm has...

Party time!
Tonight is the company “Holiday Party” - can’t call it a Christmas party because the owner’s Jewish - that’s fair.  But we have a Christmas tree in the lobby as well as a menorah.  Last night coming home on the bus I looked out and there beside us on the Gowanus at about 86th Street was a car with a lit menorah on the roof. Anyhow, I’m not really looking...

Already?
I opened my mailbox earlier today and found the first Christmas card of the season.  You know what?  It really pisses me off.  It’s just too damn early to be mailing cards.  It just feels like - to me - that it’s a chore for the sender and so get ‘em written stamped and mailed and check it off the list.  Am I the only one who feels that way?

My Bed
Back in January 2009 I bought a new queen sized mattress set from Macy’s.  Simmons.  Loved it for the first few weeks.  Hated it thereafter.  In March of 2010 it was so bad that I called Macy’s and they sent a technician to measure the “body depression” which was half an inch so they replaced the mattress.  I still hate it.  Pillow top.  Stupid move.  Anyhow sleep is very...

Oh well
I let the apartment go. The sellers wouldn’t budge from $175,000 and I decided that the parking and electric bill situation on top of the renovation costs was going to be more than I was comfortable paying. Oh well. Oh well. Maybe I’ll look in Bay Ridge but that’s probably going to be out of my range.

Oh well(butrin)
The asking price is $189,000 but the place needs a new kitchen and new bathroom so I bid $165,000; they countered with $175,000; I countered with $168,000; they’re offended.  So.  Do I a) stump up to $175,000 or b) counter with $172,000 and see where we are or c) tell them to come back to me if they don’t find a buyer at their price? Pros:  big (around 825sf vs my 670sf); top floor...

I'm going to London
I booked the flight, even though the prices have gone up a bit and I missed the lowest pont.  I’ll be gone over Thanksgiving.  Used my miles. Then I woke up. It was all a dream - and kind of a scary dream at that. EDIT:  But I can book r/t flights Mon 11/22-Mon 11/29 for $600.50.  Add the hotel for $1000 and it’s tempting - it’s not quite $2 per £ but it’s about $1.70

Maybe if he didn't spread his shit out all over...
Now I have no doubt at all that color does indeed play a large part in his tale, but I have to say, that when I get on the bus, if someone’s spread their stuff out all over the seat next to them, they don’t want anyone sitting next to them. You decide. From today’s Times: The Seat Not Taken By JOHN EDGAR WIDEMAN AT least twice a week I ride Amtrak’s high-speed Acela train...

NOTHING LIKE A PUB LUNCH
Drew bailed on me for lunch today - 2 days in a row - so I just took myself over to the playwright on 34th, had a turkey club and a gin and tonic. Aaaaaaaah.

STARTING OVER
Yesterday I got a prequalification letter from the bank that says I’d be approved for a mortage of $250,000.  Actually, the mortgage banker said I’d be approved for almost $300,000 but let’s not get carried away.  I don’t want to go above the low $200,000 on a purchase.  By the time you get done with fees and all, a purchase of $200,000 could wind up being $225,000 or...

An Odd Kind of Day
After church I went to breakfast with John (as per usual) and came home to find a message from Roseann; she was talking about needing help with moving mattresses etc…; so I volunteered.  Not bad. we changed a few things around and while we were doing this I just let her talk about all the stuff that’s going on - her son’s wedding is in 3 weeks and she’s just really not into...

Just a teeny tiny very mild anxiety attack
Not sure what, specifically, preciptated it but I think in general it’s the cleaning, discarding.  It’s change.  I don’t like change.  I’m having a hard time getting rid of stuff my mother gave me - from her kitchen or my aunt’s kitchen (the aunt who furnished most of my house - does it represent rejection and that scares the crap out of me?  Yeah, I know,...

But I said it really loud.  And I said it at least three times.  (At least I didn’t say Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!)  I had a bid due at 5pm and just a little bit before 2 I realized half of it was undone!  Shitfuckhelldamn!  (I didn’t say that either.)  Fortunately I got the questionnaire finished and the bid out on time - at least I hope it was on time.  I gave it to Ken to deliver by 5pm. ...

SONDHEIM AT 80  Well, I made it through the month without losing my job—that’s a good thing.  So far - and god I hope the bloodletting is done - at least 7 people have been laid off: John, Kate, Paula, Vivian, Victor, Jonathan, Brian, and I think there was 1 more but I can’t remember who.  And one other person got a demotion.  Anyhow, hopefully it’s all done with and Monday...

Anger = Food
The last couple of weeks in therapy Laura and I have been talking about anger. I don’t think anyone who knows me - or even those who don’t - would consider me an angry person. I laugh too much. But I think it is true. What am I angry about? Well a whole host of things - too numerous to mention. But anger leads to unhappiness leads to depression leads to eating. Anger leads to fear...
